Visit of Salisbury Cathedral Youth Choir on 15 March

It was great to welcome the Salisbury Cathedral Youth Choir to the Abbey for a joint Choral Evensong on Sunday 15 March. The choir consists of 31 young singers under the age of 18 under the direction of the gifted and inspirational Steve Abbott. Clearly this is a thriving choir and it was a lovely occasion to work together as we sang music by Walmisley and Howells’ evocative O pray for the peace of Jerusalem. There was a joint tea after the service and a chance for the choirs to mix socially and later the youth choir did a walking tour of Bath and visited the Royal Crescent. The Boys and Lay Clerks visited Salisbury Cathedral in the Spring of 2023 and it was lovely to strengthen connections with colleagues and friends again. Many of the Salisbury Boy choristers who we met on this trip in 2023 were now in the youth choir.    Huw Williams, Director of Music
