Bath Abbey Music Society (BAMS) is a registered charity, providing financial and organisational support for the Abbey’s choirs and musicians.
Funds raised by BAMS are used to support the following types of activity:
- Subsidising choir tours to some of the most prestigious cathedrals, churches and other concert venues in the UK and Europe
- Helping to pay for choir and organ recordings
- Contributing to the costs of music tuition for choir members
- Supporting the boys’ choir with transport and logistics
Huw Williams and his music team’s truly outstanding achievement is in bringing the ambition and standard of the music in Bath Abbey to the level of any leading cathedral in Britain. …. it serves as a shining example of what can be achieved without the benefit of a choir school
Inclusivity, not exclusivity
We want the experience of singing in a world class choir to be open to everybody, not just to the privileged few. For example, we don’t want anybody to be excluded from joining a choir tour, because of their financial circumstances.
Supporting young people
We aim to support our choristers through opportunities that will engage and enrich them throughout their time as a chorister. Being part of a close-knit and high achieving musical team not only provides a solid musical education, but also helps them develop skills such as self-confidence, discipline, a striving for excellence and teamwork. Singing is really good for their mental health (through camaraderie and the joy of singing) and will make them friends for life. It also gives them confidence to succeed in their future career paths.

We aim to inspire, educate and connect people through the transformative power of choral music. Through recordings and broadcasts our music is brought to millions of listeners throughout the world.
